Welcome to Liv'in Green Foundation Club
Liv'in Green Foundation Club is a
Diamond Bar High School on-campus club created to raise global warming awareness. Our primary ultimate goal is to improve our city's energy efficiency and recycle system through various activities.
We hope that by the end of next year, more high schools will be involved in global warming awareness events. Some of our events for next year are the following:

I.Collection of Recyclable Material:
1) According to the Container Recycling Institute,86 percent of plastic water bottles is not recycled! And, reused plastic bottles produce toxic byproducts such as chlorine gas and ash containing heavy metals. And a research by eath911.org suggests that in 2006, only an average of 26 percent of water bottles are recycled, leaving 38 BILLION water bottles in landfills. One year's supply of water bottles fuel is able to fuel 100,000 cars. To encourage people to recycle water bottles, we will be posting fliers on-campus, picking bottles out of trashcans, and offering bottles pick-up in our neighborhoods.
2) Like the salvation army, we will leave small fliers printed on recycled paper encouraging citizens of Diamond Bar to donate old clothing, electronics, and reusable materials. We will tell them a date when we walk from street to street and pick up the materials which they can place at their door. This way, we can donate materials to charity or sell them for fund-raising purpose.
II. Climate Protection Agreement
Over 700 mayors in Unite States have signed the
Climate Protection Agreement, a politic treaty for decreasing environment disruption. Beside individual's effort to reduce global warming, politicians play a critical role in our success in reducing the problem.
However, Diamond Bar city council has not signed it yet! Our goal is to elaborate the idea of Climate Protection Agreement and attempt to persuade our mayor Mr. Tanaka to sign it.
III. Trading Market
Flea market has always been a place to buy useful materials, and yet with a cheap price. But in a trading market, one does not have to spend a penny! Instead, they can just come with things they do not need and expect to trade for things they want. Thanks to Minister Stephen's suggestion, we have decided to play around with this idea and put it into practical use! We can save people's money this way and at the same time save the energy to manufacture materials. What we do is that we find four or more families with little children who would like to volunteer. We can have them trade with each other clothing that they do not need for things they need. We'll see how it goes from there.
IV. Planting Trees
Today's temperature is 105 F! Cities can often be referred as "Heat Island" because of cements, tall buildings, tarmac...etc that absorbs heat rather than reflects it. Trees (see
www.epa.gov/hiri/) shade and cool the air and reduce city's temperature. This is important because the hotter it is the more people are likely to run their air conditioners. Our club will be buying and planting trees using money we fund-raise through various events.
V. Climate Challenge
As an active on-campus club, it is our pleasure to participate in the
climate challenge event in February. This is an event where youths compete for schools to increase energy-efficiency on school campus.
VI. Promoting the Green Spirit
It is important for individuals to realize what global warming is doing to our ecosystems and beautiful landscapes such as the glacier. We'll also have events meant to raise global warming awareness. Some of the events may be selling recyled T-shirts designed by Liv'in Green Foundation, posting posters and flyers to raise global warming awareness, promoting CFL light bulbs and reusable bags...etc.Related Website:
